On 11th August, Green Flag celebrated a major milestone: our 100th roadside patrol member. It’s more than a number — it’s a symbol of how far we’ve come. From a bold idea to a nationwide fleet, this journey has been powered by innovation, teamwork, and a shared commitment to helping people when they need it most.
The journey began in January 2023, when Green Flag launched its first patrol team in Scotland — and with it, hired our very first patrol member, Brian Quinn.
Brian was there from day one, helping shape what would become a fast-growing, nationwide fleet. Reflecting on the journey to 100 patrols, he shared:
“This is a huge achievement from everyone involved and shows how far patrol has come since we started our patrol journey.”
“We marked the milestone with new induction training and a celebration that brought together the 100th patrol, their team leader, and me — the first patrol who went live on day one.”
“It was a proud moment. It showed how far we’ve come and highlighted the culture we’ve built — one that recognises the hard work across all departments that made this possible.”
As Damon Jowett, Director of Customer, Roadside and Network Services, adds:
“We’ve changed absolutely everything along the way — learning, adapting and deploying into run. It’s been a herculean effort by all, and we’re not stopping here.”
We couldn’t let this milestone pass without celebrating. Events at our Glasgow Control Centre and Birmingham Training Centre brought the team together to reflect on the journey and share in the pride of what we’ve built.
“It’s important to recognise the people who built this part of the company. The celebration showed that all the effort and hard work has been worthwhile — and gave us a moment to feel proud of what we’ve achieved together.” — Stephen McEwan
“The vibe was amazing — it felt like we were part of something big. Celebrating this milestone wasn’t just about the number, it was about the journey and the people.” — Ali Sancar
“It’s nice to be involved from the early days of having our own patrol force. Celebrating this shows me that Green Flag is the right place to be.” — Pedro Martins
“It feels like the family is growing. Makes me proud to be part of GF and see it grow.” — Keith Lancashire
“It’s always nice to bring different areas of the business together and celebrate this achievement.” — Brian Quinn
Reaching 100 patrols is more than a milestone — it’s a reflection of the people who make Green Flag what it is. Our patrols are the heartbeat of our service, and their experiences reveal a culture built on respect, support, and pride.
“It’s a refreshing change to feel valued again and part of something — not just a number.” — Stephen
“Everyone works together to make things work — whether it’s help on a live breakdown or needing time off.” — Pedro
“We work hard, support each other, and have fun doing it.” — Ali
“My team pulls together to help each other.” — Keith
“Joining from the beginning is something special.” — Brian
Myth: Green Flag Patrols Just Tow Cars
Actually, no. Most breakdowns are fixed on the spot.
“Members are often surprised when we fix their vehicles at the roadside.” — Stephen
“We carry a range of batteries and can even pick up parts if needed.” — Pedro
“Having our own patrols means we can now repair more cars at the roadside.” — Brian
It’s All Mechanical
Not quite. Patrols often support customers through emotional moments — from illness to bereavement — offering reassurance and empathy alongside technical expertise.
“It’s not just about fixing a car — it’s about fixing the customer’s day.” — Ali
“Sometimes it’s the person who needs my help as much as the vehicle.” — Keith
It’s a Solo Job
Far from it. The team culture is strong, and patrols know they’re never alone.
“I know when I’m on shift I can call any other patrol just to chat or catch up.” — Pedro
Other Misconceptions
“People don’t realise Green Flag has been going since 1971. Now we have our own patrols, it’s making us more visible.” — Brian
With our model now proven, the next step is expansion. We’re focused on covering densely populated areas across the UK through 2025 and 2026, growing our team, and amplifying our brand.
“I want us to be the roadside employer of choice — attracting talent from across the industry while growing our own.” — Damon Jowett
