Behind the Vans at Green Flag: Meet Rob & Noel

At Green Flag, it takes more than just mechanical know-how to keep drivers moving — it takes people who care.
People like Rob Jones and Noel Bonner. They’ve spent the last year building not just a career, but a tight-knit team and a shared mission: to deliver great service on the road and be a voice for their colleagues behind the scenes.

But what’s it like working for the UK’s third-largest rescue provider?

Green Flag: Meet Rob & Noel

Rob and Noel didn’t meet until they both joined Green Flag — coincidentally, from the same previous employer.

“We were both at the RAC,” Rob explains. “But we’d never actually crossed paths until we started here. It’s funny how things work out.”

A year on, they’re part of a close-knit team covering Yorkshire and helping customers when they need it most.

“There are nine of us right now,” says Rob, “soon to be ten. We’re growing — and it’s a good bunch.”

Life on the Road — and the Freedom That Comes With It

Rob leads the Yorkshire patrol team but still gets out on the road himself.

“It’s that mix that I love,” he says. “Some days I’m doing admin, other days I’m out helping customers. It’s flexible, and that really works for me.”

Noel agrees:

“No two days are the same. I’m never in the same place twice — which suits me perfectly. I get bored easily, so the variety keeps things interesting.”

The hands-on nature of the job is what keeps them both engaged.

“I’ve always enjoyed being practical,” says Rob. “Getting stuck in, solving problems — that’s the rewarding part.”

And for Noel:

“It’s knowing you’ve made someone’s day better when they needed help.”

How Would You Describe the Culture? And the Camaraderie?

“They’re a great team,” Rob says, talking about the patrols he manages. “It’s a great group of people … who perform exceptionally well.”

Noel agrees, adding with a cheeky nod to Rob:

“I have a great team leader — he listens and understands. The other lads in the area are brilliant too. It’s a very supportive environment.”

What are the opportunities like for career progression?

“I’ve been part of various projects from the beginning to when they were announced,” says Rob.

One recent example involved helping to onboard a new partner, which included “… presenting to them the things that we have on the van, things that we carry, things that we’re capable of doing, services we provide, that sort of thing – it’s something I’m proud of.”

Driving Change from the Inside: Noel’s ERB Role

One thing Noel is especially proud of is his place on the ERB – the Employee Representative Body.

“Being part of ERB shows me a different side of the business — it gives me an idea of what progression could look like long-term. And it feels good to know you’re helping make things better, not just for customers but for your colleagues too.”

Looking Ahead

When asked about career development, Rob is optimistic:

“There are many roles within Green Flag, not just within the patrol structure.”

Noel shares a similar view, expressing his desire:

“To be part of something new and help build a product for DLG and Green Flag.”
