Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

We don’t just talk about inclusivity, we actively embrace it. We elevate all voices, build workplaces that work for people, and invest in the things that really matter. Here, you can step into work and bring your whole authentic self with you. Whatever your background, and wherever you want to go in your career, our leaders and our networks are here to help get you there.

With us, you can be you

That’s one of our values. We get that our strength comes from our differences. We want the real you. We want your perspective, ideas, and opinions. That’s how we’ve all created an inclusive environment where everyone’s welcome. If you join us, you’ll be part of a business placed 12th on the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers List for 2024-2025. We’ve also been recognised as a Top 75 employer in the Social Mobility Index for 2023 and 2024.

Creating a fairer place to work

Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of all we do, from our processes and practices to our culture and behaviours. Our policies cover flexible working, workplace adjustments, anti-bullying and harassment, menopause, pregnancy loss, transitioning gender and much more. We’re always working to expand and further understand what ‘inclusion and belonging’ really mean.

It’s in our DNA

We have seven Diversity Network Alliance (DNA) strands, made up of passionate and compassionate colleagues who help to keep diversity and inclusion changes in our sights. These strands help us understand the issues that matter to our people. They offer a safe space for conversations and host activities that make us ever more inclusive.

01

LGBTQ+

The LGBTQ+ strand supports lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer colleagues. It aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by LGBTQ+ people today, providing a platform for colleagues to share their stories. The central focus is on building empathy and promoting allyship, but they also work closely with HR to consult on and update policies to ensure they are LGBTQ+ inclusive.

02

Life

Our Life strand represents working families, carers, and colleagues of all generations. Supporting DLG in creating an environment where all our people can balance family and carer commitments, they run events and training to encourage awareness about the support offered for those going through life events.

03

Neuro-Diversity & Disability

Our Neuro-diversity & Disability strand provides insights and support to help enhance our workplace adjustments policy. In 2022, the strand set up a parent’s group to support those caring for children with neuro, sensory or physical differences.

04

REACH

Our REACH strand celebrates people from all ethnicities and backgrounds – offering a safe space for ethnic minority colleagues and allies to come together. The strand runs a comprehensive programme of events to elevate, educate and empower people. Activities include bi-weekly strand meetings, Lunch & Learn sessions, Book Club, Vodcasts, career workshops and lots more, including Black History Month events with live speakers.

05

Social Mobility

Our Social Mobility – or ‘SoMo’ – strand supports social mobility within DLG, focusing on levelling up society. As well as supporting internal change, the strand has a strong external focus, and our Community Fund facilitates outreach work for disadvantaged young people designed to improve their life chances.

06

Thrive

Our Thrive strand aims to create an environment where everyone can succeed, regardless of the gender they identify with. With a strong developmental focus and several hundred members, the Thrive strand utilises their platform to break down taboo topics (such as menopause, gender identity and managing money), shining a spotlight on gendered bias, and building members’ soft skills to encourage them to reach their full potential.

07

Belief

Our Belief strand celebrates the diversity of beliefs and faiths practiced by colleagues at DLG. As a safe and transparent space for people of different beliefs, the strand seeks to encourage honest, compassionate, tolerant and harmonious dialogue so that colleagues with faith or of no faith can understand each other better.
